Dried Gingko leaf, lino-cut, copperwire on Kozo paper, 30x50cm
The symbolic meaning of the leaf is as old as time. I use leaves as a visual metaphor for impermanence. I manipulate leaves using raw spun flax, hemp, cotton - extracted by humans from the plant world - and extremely thin copper wire – extracted by humans from the mineral world.
Leaves grow on trees in earth. Sometimes I use collected earth / soil in my artwork.
Often stories are buried in the earth. I add them to the artwork.
